I have learnt that following the teacher’s instructions closely is a tremendously crucial part of the project. It is a listening skill and if I had misheard or misunderstood a single instruction, everything I did after would go entirely wrong.
Since our group consisted of five very different people, we needed to split up the responsibilities wisely according to the person’s aptitude. As English came naturally to me, I became the editor and edited the errors found in my group members’ work.
When I entered the crime scene and was told to search for hair samples, I realized it took great concentration and that I could not overlook even the tiniest detail; such as a mattress cover or a piece of paper. It also took great skill to pick up the hairs without dropping it on the ground and losing it forever.
The laboratory work was another colossal headache. I could hardly tell the difference between one strand of hair to the other. My team members all needed the microscope and in the end, we could not do a very thorough job as everyone was fighting for the use of the instrument.
After the pod-casting, I became more conscious about how tough it was to portray emotions into a character’s voice. It was similar to being an actor, just that in this case; my voice was the one that had to ‘act’.
Working in a group has proved difficult for me as there are times when my team members refused to cooperate. Sometimes, getting us together so that we could discuss properly was a great issue and was almost impossible to achieve as everyone was busy with their own work. Thankfully, the urgency of the project prompted everyone to at least help out with everything and to give their opinions and suggestions. One example was when we all went online to discuss about the script; what questions to ask and how should we phrase it.
At times, I did not want to participate as I needed to resolve my own personal problems and occasionally ignored the work given to me. I would normally do my part when the deadline got nearer and when my team mates’ imperativeness mounted. As a team member, I should have been more cooperative and strived for more elaboration in our work.
This was a very tiring and tedious project that needed loads of teamwork and fortitude. Still, I enjoyed myself as I got to try hands-on on how investigations and interrogations were carried out. I would seek for more emphasis in the teamwork the next time we have another project like this.
